During our beautiful mild winters May - October,
the temperature hovers around 26ºC during the day, falling
to 14º at night along the Coast and 4º at higher altitudes
on the Tablelands.
Our summer months November - April, the days
lengthen so that the sun rises at 5am and sets at latest round
7pm.
During summer the humidity rises sharply to 85% and although
the ambient temperature is still only about 30 - 32 ºC
, the weather feels sticky. You will definitely need one of
our air-conditioned cars during the summer
!
Its Paradise!
Imagine blue tropical sunny skies and
aquamarine waters splashing over sandy cays.
There is a warm gentle sea breeze to
keep you feeling fresh.
Ocean temperatures pretty well mirror those of our swimming
pool, between 22- 28 ºC, so you can swim
all year around.
Remember to drink plenty of water no
matter what time of the year you come as dehydration is
what knocks most people out.
Alcohol dehydrates you - so don't drink too much in direct
sunshine/heat of the day - it can be dangerous as you
don't notice the effects until too late!
Australia boasts the 7 deadliest spiders,
jellyfish and the most ferocious crocodiles in the world!
We have all seen and heard Steve Irwin.
Well, millions of people live here and do just fine!

Just remember to bring
your common sense along with you on holiday.

Swim in the local stinger
nets during "Stinger season" November- May.
The golden rule is " if you see the stinger
nets up -swim in them"
Do not swim in any creeks or estuaries with Crocodile
warning signs - especially at night!
Clothing required in Cairns can
be described in two words. NOT MUCH.
it never really gets cold enough for warm clothes, unless
of course you are from a hotter climate than ours.
Shorts, T shirts, thongs & sandals along with a good
hat are our local dress.
A final word of warning
Police Speed Traps are lurking EVERWHERE -
so don't exceed the speed limit.
Random Breath Testing is the norm in Queensland,
so don't drink and drive
When it rains, it can be torrential
- although we haven't had a really wet Monsoon Season for 5
years! BUT our roads, especially the roundabouts turn into skid
pans and are very dangerous if you are going fast. So
please reduce your speed when it is wet
